Are there a couple of Woolly Buggers in your fly box? We’d be really surprised if there weren’t.
We can confidently say that the woolly bugger is one of the most well-known flies in the world—for good reason. It’s one of the most effective of all time. Tied in all manner of sizes and colors, it’s beauty is in how versatile it is. The Woolly Bugger imitates a huge range of forage, like baitfish, leeches, crayfish and damsels. You can fish it unweighted, or with a bead. You can fish it on a floating line, a sinking line, or anything in between. It performs in salt water, and fresh. You can strip it, swing it, or even dead drift it. And, it catches just about every species. The truth is, woolly buggers are only limited by how far your imagination can take them.
This year we wanted to add on our already extensive collection of Woolly Buggers by bringing some bling into the range. To accomplish this we wanted to make sure to stay true to their roots while adding extra spark. Below we’ve laid out all the new colors!
Shimmer Bugger
The shimmer bugger incorporates our new Shimmer Chenille, which is a pearlescent cactus chenille. This adds a fantastic sparkling effect to the body of these new woolly buggers. Additionally, it gives them a really “buggy” effect. We added a bunch of color combinations that you can purchase, but you can also grab some of our Shimmer Chenille and get creative yourself. Furthermore, we recommend pairing this with our new Premium Selected Marabou.

Shuggy Bugger
Anglers in the UK fishing scene use “Shuggy” as a slang term for the Humongous pattern. If you don’t know it, this is a famous and super effective stillwater fly. This Woolly Bugger uses the same Chenille as the Humongous—our Shuggy Chenille. This is a great flashy baitfish version of the woolly bugger that’s especially good when the fish are fired up to eat. Additionally, if you want to tie it yourself we offer our Shuggy Chenille in gold, silver and copper. So, there are a lot of different color combinations you can play with.
